DEN & HOME OFFICES
Optimal illumination for dens and home offices provide consistent, uniform, non-glaring all-around light and specific task lighting. A central mount fluorescent fixture can achieve general illumination. For rooms with a computer, lighting fixtures should be mounted to the right or left of the workstation so that light comes over the shoulder. Energy efficient fluorescent task lighting can be used under bookshelves to highlight desk tasks or it can be used on shelving to provide uplighting. The uplighting will reflect off the surrounding surfaces providing non-glare ambient lighting.

BATHROOMS
The bathroom, where you prepare for the day and wind down at night, requires realistic and shadow-free lighting. Wall lighting around mirrors provides the needed illumination for grooming activities like shaving and putting on make-up. Choose energy-efficient fluorescent Bath Bars, Wall Clouds, and Vanities instead of incandescent. A ceiling mount fixture provides general illumination for shower and bathtub areas. SIMKAR offers many companion fixtures—Bath Bars & Accent Cloud, Ceiling & Wall Cloud. Companion fixtures can be special ordered with dimming ballasts to afford a more relaxing environment.

 Energy Efficient Lighting Example:

Lighting Type:

Task & General (ambient)

BEDROOMS
Bedrooms are not just for sleeping; they are for reading, watching television, dressing and generally relaxing. Bedroom lighting needs to provide for all of these activities. Table lamps or wall sconces equipped with compact fluorescent lamps provide energy efficient task illumination. For general illumination use a decorative fluorescent with dimming ballast. The dimming ballasts controls energy costs while allowing the mood to be set for any occasion.

For closets and dressing areas, use a central mount fluorescent fixture like a circline or cloud. These fixtures can be hardwired to a wall switch or ordered with a pull chain. Be sure to use a color-corrected (3500K-4000K) fluorescent light bulb, which enhances most colors and the most similar to incandescent lighting.

 Energy Efficient Lighting Example:

Lighting Type:

Task

Recommended Fixture:*

Wall Sconces, using two 26W PL, replacing two 75W incandescent table lamps.

Results:

65% Energy Savings
$29.40 Savings on Annual Energy Bill**
93% Longer Bulb Life

KITCHEN
The kitchen is the hub of the home, the central meeting and entertaining room. Depending on the size of room there are different lighting requirements. Small kitchens may require one central general illumination fixture. Larger kitchens may require more than one source of general illumination. For example use a pendant mount fluorescent fixture (SIMKAR's Euro) over an island or independent workstation or strips (channels) above cabinetry or on perimeter shelving. SIMKAR's companion White Curve Rectangular and Octagon series is ideal for center mount and sink mount.

All kitchens should be equipped with task lighting. Energy efficient fluorescent undercabinet lighting is available in convenient lengths for all types of cabinetry. When mounted close to the front edge of the cabinet bottom SIMKAR's slim undercabinets virtually disappear providing light without seeing the fixture.

 Energy Efficient Lighting Example:

Lighting Type:

General (Ambient)

Recommended Fixture:*

White Curve Rectangular, using three 17W T8, replacing a fixture with four 60W incandescent light bulbs.

Results:

79% Energy Savings
$56.70 Savings on Annual Energy Bill**
95% Longer Bulb Life

FAMILY & LIVING AREAS
Common lighting in family and living areas include table and floor lamps. Replacing incandescent light bulbs with screw-in compact fluorescents is a simple energy efficient solution. For living areas with perimeter shelving or high furniture pieces you may consider fluorescent fixtures to provide ambient uplighting. Strips (channels) are ideal for this purpose. For decorative accent lighting, low wattage fluorescent strips and undercabinets can be used in bookshelves or the entertainment center. Don't be fooled by "Hockey Puck" halogen accent lights. They can consume up to 35 watts per bulb—175 watts at 5 lights per row. Other techniques are to frame fireplaces or artwork with wall sconces.

 Energy Efficient Lighting Example:

Lighting Type:

General (ambient)

Recommended Fixture:*

Strip (Channel), using one 17W T8, replacing a 75W incandescent table lamp.

Results:

77% Energy Savings
$17.40 Savings on Annual Energy Bill**
96% Longer Bulb Life

BASEMENT & UTILITY ROOM
Incandescent lighting is the most inefficient light source. 90% of the energy consumed by an incandescent bulb is heat; only 10% is converted to light. For more efficient and better light output choose fluorescent utility lighting. For surface mount lighting, T8 technology strips and work lights are optimal general lighting for basements and utility rooms. For basements with drop ceilings (t-bar) choose our recessed troffers.

The addition of another light level aids in discriminating tasks like accurately matching colors in a laundry or utility room and safely operating tools in a workshop. SIMKAR's task and undercabinet lighting is available with lamps as a hardwired fixture or with cord and plug. For large work areas, choose SIMKAR's fluorescent work lights. They provide more light and better distribution than task/undercabinets.

 Energy Efficient Lighting Example:

Lighting Type:

Task & General (ambient)

Recommended Fixtures:*

Work Lite, using one 2-light 32W T8 SIMKAR Work Lite, provides the light output of seven 60W incandescent bulbs.

Results:

$106.80 Savings on Annual Energy Bill**
